BCCLA Files Class Action for Spying by CSEC http://bit.ly/1iIeYko
The Canadian government has been spying on Canadian organizations engaged in peaceful activities related to the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline project.
In what the Guardian calls unprecedented surveillance and intelligence sharing with corporations, Canada’s government sat down to share this information with the oil industry.
Canadians have the right to participate in important public debates without fear of being spied on and intimidated by our own security, intelligence, and police agencies.
These actions are a violation of fundamental rights to free expression, peaceful assembly and free association– rights that lie at the core of our free and democratic society. We think CSIS also broke its own law – it is prohibited from targeting peaceful and democratic activities of Canadians.
